Are we too good to go down?
In 2002/3 we were certainly too good to go down........history says it differently. We did have a team full of talent, loads of it home grown, but for those about at the time it was fucking horrible when we got relegated.

Interestingly, we were 19th the corresponding weekend back in 2002/3 and the team under us was Sunderland. The other team relegated with us were West Brom.

Are we too good to get relegated this season or will we survive?

No one is ever too good to go down. I think we will go down this season - we have no backbone or fight, decisions are not going our way. The club is a mess

Re: Are we too good to go down?
Far too good. There is some bang average, poor dross around us.

Which is - as you say - no guarantee at all that we will stay up.

no teams too good to go down

Re: Are we too good to go down?
I think the only way we will drop is if sides like Sunderland, Hull, Swansea rally and start winning games and we see a 40 point mark sending you down. Had we hung on yesterday we would have been around mid-table. A long way to go.

Had we hung on against Watford Stoke and Tottenham we'd be in the top half.

Cheers Adrian and Randolph.

Re: Are we too good to go down?
Yes Ronnie but we didn't and we are where we are. You might as well include WBA in that little lot as well. It's not as if we lost all those games (and drew the Stoke mess) against the run of play and we were dreadfully unlucky. We are shit from back to front, and the players are starting to realise it as well now. I'm happy to be proved wrong at the end of the season, but another tonking from the Mancs next week and for a fragile club like us and without the players who have the necessary fight in them - I cannot imagine Nordveit, Tore, Zaza, and Calleri scrapping for survival - it may well be the beginning of the end.

Your Dad OK?

Re: Are we too good to go down?
Of course it could happen. I don't think it will though but that doesn't mean anything at all. We have to get results.

It's not going to be a great season at all though. That's pretty obvious for all to see.

If we keep shooting ourselves in the foot then we have no chance of finishing in our normal mid-table position.

We'll end up 13th or 14th at best. I'd take that now, of course, but it would be a disappointing finish.

No way will we get past Man Utd in the League Cup quarter-final either. We'll lose to them twice in the space of just a few days just like what Everton, Watford and Birmingham City did to us in Cup/League consecutive games. That's what we do.

Are we too good to go down, the answer is NO.

Re: Are we too good to go down?
Not by any means.

The players we've got should be far too talented for that to happen, but if we keep on playing like we have been and get a couple of unlucky results in addition, then we could be bang in trouble,

El Scorchio

I think we are bang in trouble right now mate. Our next three league games could well destroy the little confidence the majority of our players have and Slav will have a bit of a squeaky bum, looking over his shoulder at his replacement.

We need to beat Liverpool, or Man U or Arsenal in the next three games or else we will be very deep in it and I can only see it ending in tears.

I half hope we go down. Our cunt owners deserve it and the club needs sorting out. A relegation might be the only way.

Re: Are we too good to go down?
Could turn the question on its head and ask are we good enough to stay up?

We have now substantially the same players available to us that did so well last season. We just need to be playing at that level and we will move up several places. Yesterday's game was the first of a hard run and at best we might have got a point. As it transpired we so nearly won.

Keep the faith because we will survive.

The squad is too good to go down.

Sadly the master tactician leading them is not good enough to get anything like the most from them.

"Too good to go down."?

Hmmm. That old chestnut.

Re: Are we too good to go down?
It's always horrible going down. But under Grant, it was a relief for it to be over.
Under Roeder? Different. You just couldn't believe it was happening.
Under Bilic? There's still time but he has to admit the transfers didn't work and stop persisting with one up front when we can't score. I don't have the answer but if we are going to avoid it all happening again, the board have got to do something radical. But I can't see sacking Bilic as the answer, even though I wanted a Allardyce, Grant, Pardew, Zola and Roedant gone.
In the end, sacking doesn't change the players. It just costs. Bilic has no contract after this season. Let him fight for it. If he wins, we all do. If he loses? We are all buggered. Again.

Bilic signed a three year contract which takes him to June 2018.

I've always believed Redknapp would return some day so wait for Sullivan to take action late December if the 'easy' fixtures are fucked up.

Too good to go down!? Really, let's see now, we struggle to score, can't keep a clean sheet and can't defend a lead.
We lack fighters throughout the team and many of our supporters have delusions of grandure.
Seem to be perfect candidates for relegation
